What does the Guelph Youth Council do?

The Guelph Youth Council (GYC) organizes a wide variety of community events, attends workshops, and participates in advisory meetings. Members of the GYC are always encouraged to bring their own event and workshop ideas to the youth council for consideration.Guelph Youth Council Logo

Our meetings may include:

  • Providing a youth perspective by advising community members, city staff, city councilors, and the mayor on programs, facilities and events to ensure that they are engaging and accessible to youth in Guelph.
  • Working on longer, multi-meeting projects to see a community event or program to fruition.
  • Attending workshops led by local guest-speakers
  • Speaking with different departments within the City of Guelph, speaking with any special guests, or participating in a panel.
  • Planning and organizing events for the City of Guelph (ie, National Youth Week)
  • Participating in events around Guelph (ie, The Guelph & District Multicultural Festival)
  • Attending team-building and social bonding events and meetings
    • Leadership retreats, group seminars, other youth-based training opportunities, holiday parties, pot-luck dinners, and more.

Guelph Youth Council Town Hall: Your Voice, Your City

The Guelph Youth Council (GYC) is launching monthly Town Hall meetings — a fresh and interactive way for youth to connect with local issues, community leaders, and each other.

Each Town Hall gives youth the chance to:

  • Join a GYC meeting and discover whether the council is the right fit for you.
  • Engage in meaningful conversations around youth-related issues in Guelph — open, political, and always respectful.
  • Take part in themed discussions, featuring guest speakers, community organizations, or panels of experts from across the city and beyond.
  • Learn about current City of Guelph projects and share your experiences and ideas —y our voice can directly impact your community.
  • Explore timely topics and areas of interest, collaborate with fellow youth and contribute to real community dialogue.
  • Discover upcoming GYC initiatives, offer feedback, and connect with council members directly.

Each Town Hall offers a unique experience — shaped by the speakers, topics, and conversations chosen for that month. Whether you’re curious, passionate, or ready to make change, this is your space to be heard and make a difference.

Join us monthly at City Hall from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. We can’t wait to hear what you have to say.
