The Guelph Youth Council (GYC) is a group of passionate young people, ages 13 – 18, that strive to preserve and enhance the youth culture in Guelph. We work to ensure that all GYC meetings are safe, inclusive spaces where young people can gather to have a say in the solutions that shape our community. To accomplish this, we liaise with the City Council, plan and implement various special events and activities for youth in Guelph, engage in leadership training workshops, and advocate for youth-friendly facilities and programming on behalf of youth in our city.
The youth council meets weekly at City Hall, in downtown Guelph on Wednesdays from 4-5:30 pm, from September until the end of June. Sub-Committees may require additional meetings throughout the year, depending on project development. Please refer to the Terms of Reference for a more detailed overview of the Guelph Youth Council.
The Guelph Youth Council is hosted by the City of Guelph and strives to be an inclusive group where youth from diverse backgrounds can collaborate, participate, and feel welcome regardless of race, religion, socioeconomic status, gender, sexual orientation, sex, or disability.
How to join the Guelph Youth Council
We open applications twice a year, in September and February, to give new members the best possible start. This timing allows us to host a welcome orientation and training session, ensuring you feel prepared, supported, and connected with the council from day one.
Please submit an application form, which can be found on the Join the Guelph Youth Council page of this website. Volunteering with the Guelph Youth Council is an enjoyable way to satisfy the requirements for your 40 hours of high school volunteer service while making a difference in the community.
